Thank you!

September 18th, 2010

As I sit here typing in the kitchen with the Lost Season 6 soundtrack (because we’re really geeky), Nathan cooks dinner and I lounge across the kitchen chairs just feeling warm.

Life is very much a bubble and a lot of the time, the bubble pops and you spend forever blowing it back up again. Life has been hectic and busy, it’s been rushed and crazy lately but I wouldn’t change it for the World. When I think about what is still to come I get thousands of butterflies inside my stomach, lungs, heart; everywhere! My photography page has received so much love and amazing comments which really make my day to read. I feel so spoilt and undeserving of all the beautiful words people spend their precious time to write.

Thank you to everyone who comments and supports us in what we do and show to the World. I truly appreciate the beauty of all your words from the bottom of my heart and we love reading what everyone has to say. Thank you all so much. We think you’re all our little stars.

Lovenest.

September 4th, 2010

We have been living in a new little place together for a little over 2 weeks now. I haven’t had the chance to take many photographs of our lovenest as much of it has been unfinished. I still felt like sharing what it is like with you.

We live in a little town in London where there is more wild land than houses. We live 10 minutes out of the centre of London but are lucky enough to be surrounded by fields, trees and so much nature. Our street is just Victorian terraced houses, one of them being ours. We live in a split level flat in number 36. We have friendly neighbours and the world is peaceful where we live. Everything is still and quiet. There’s no drama or loudness. It is a perfect little location for two little people starting out in the world.

We have a cream bedroom where the light shines in and makes the air warm and lush. At night I can look out the window and count the stars. Trinkets lay on our dresser as well as fresh flowers from my mother’s garden.  The word “Dream” is written above our bedhead which we specially painted gold together and gave a distressed finish to. The room is filled with items holding valuable memories to us. It’s a perfect den to sleep in.

Our living room is big and cosy. We have a bookshelf full of inspirational books to look at every night. Photos cover our walls to show memories out loud. Our sofa cradles us as the soft buzz of the TV usually lulls us into a trance like state before we drowsily crawl to our bed. There is a big tree outside our window, it hides us from the street and welcomes us in the morning time. At 4pm the afternoon sun positions itself to make pretty patterns through the blinds on our wall. The atmosphere turns misty and flies outside turn to fireflies. It’s my favourite part of the day when it turns hazy.

Our bathroom is bright and airy full of little bits and bobs. We have candles on the bath and pressed flowers in frames on the wall. There is a little buoy that we bought in Calais on the wall. Our fluffy towels look huggable and “I love you” is permanently written on the mirror so when you have a shower or bath, you can read it clearly when it steams up. It is a little room of relaxation. It’s a place you come out from feeling fresh and happy. My favourite part is the original 1800 window which is crooked and could tell many stories.

Our kitchen is warm and welcoming. It is the first room you see in our home. We have vintage teacups to welcome you in after a long day out. Our favourite foods line the shelves. There is our table with 4 little chairs in the corner underneath a vintage Europe map. We grow basil on the counter next to our sugar pot. The lights are bright and keep you awake. We love to cook up many new little things. The fridge hums a melodic tune.

All in all, it is quirky in its own little way. I am thinking of making a video tour of it to show everyone what it really looks like so I shall have to see how it all comes along and what time I have to make it. I will definitely try though.

20!

August 12th, 2010

Last Sunday I turned 20. So I decided to update with a little picture post of some recent snaps.

Goofing around on my last night of being 19.

Last photo as a 19 year old.

Pretty ecstatic to open Nathan’s present in the morning to find this staring at me.

We spent the morning in row boats on the Serpentine. It was so beautiful.

And then we all sat down to a giant cupcake birthday cake. It was so delicious and the moment was amazing.

I had an incredible day full of fun, lots of laughter and amazing people. I feel so blessed to have been able to spend my day with them all and have been made to feel so special. It was the best birthday I’ve yet had and I hope they only get better from here on in! Roll on the years!

Lemonade and Cupcakes!

July 2nd, 2010

So I got a lovely note from a lovely girl called Lyssa saying she really liked this blog, especially the recipes. It was really great to know that people out there do actually read thing little corner of the internet. So I have decided seeing as it’s a blistering hot summer, we could do with some more recipes from our little cookbook! Today we shall learn how to make refreshing lemonade and little rose petal cupcakes for an afternoon in the sun or for the perfect little picnic! Enjoy! (We sure do!)

Refreshing Lemonade

What you will need:

  • 1 cup of lemon juice (need about 4-6 fresh lemons)
  • 1 cup of water (for the syrup)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3 to 4 cups cold water

What to do:

1. To make a syrup, heat the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved completely. Sugary goodness, yum!

2. Whilst your sugar is dissolving, use a juicer to extract the juice from 4 to 6 lemons, enough to fill 1 cup of lovely lemon juice.

3. Add the juice along with the sugary water to a pitcher together. Add your 3 to 4 cups of cold water, more or less to the desired strength. Refrigerate for 30 to 40 minutes to make it nice and chilled. Feel free to add ice!

4. Enjoy!

Rose Dream Cupcakes

What you will need:

  • 150g softened of unsalted butter
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 1 tbsp rose water
  • 100ml milk
  • 1 packet instant royal icing
  • Rose petals or silver balls, to decorate

What to do:

1. Preheat your oven to 190C/gas 5. Line a 12-hole muffin tray with cupcake bases.

2. Using a wooden spoon, stir the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, one by one, while stirring well between each addition. If the mixture starts to curdle, add a tablespoon of the flour to stabilise it.

3. Fold in the remaining flour, followed by the rose water. Next, start adding the milk – you may not need it all. What you want is a batter that will just fall off the spoon if you shake it a little.

4. Spoon the mixture into the muffin papers and bake in the oven until cooked through and golden, about 20 minutes. Turn out onto a rack to cool.

5. Make up a big batch of royal icing and spoon onto the cakes. Leave to set before decorating with rose petals or silver balls.

6. Enjoy with your lemonade!

Update!

June 28th, 2010

I am deeply sorry for the lack of updates lately (for those of you who do read this!) Things have been so, so busy and I felt like my head hasn’t even been screwed on the right way round! Thankfully things are beginning to quieten down so I can think again and get this blog updated!

So what’s been happening? What hasn’t happened?! If I went into everything we would be here until 2015 and I really don’t want to do that to you.

Nathan and I celebrated his birthday with pizza and light up balloons. We partied and danced and just had the best of fun. He’s all grown up now but I’ll catch him up in a month’s time. Eep. It’s so funny to think we’ve known each other since we were 16 and now we’re 20. We really have grown up together and I couldn’t ask for more. His work has been hectic, but as always he has coped and blown the socks of it all.

I spent last week in Bournemouth which was beautiful. 30 degrees every day and we’re now looking at a drought this Summer. Haven’t had one since 2003 when they even cut people’s water supplies off. Scary, scary. It hit 32 degrees today and it’s only heading up from here. We’re going to see rain on Thursday! First time in 2 weeks. Sorry, no offence but I do get very sick of people always calling England the rainiest place on Earth because it obviously isn’t. And I am loving the heat! I met a fellow photographer Olivia Bell and we spent a morning on the beach shooting and getting very wet in the sea. It was heaps of fun all the same.

I have been so busy with shoots lately. I was recently published which opened many more doors for me. It’s all about getting your foot in the door which is never ever easy. I did my biggest shoot yet in a graveyard 2 weeks ago. It was very scary and we were all squealing – even the men! Below is a shot of the few of us who headed back to the same station.

I promise to get round to doing a sole photo post very soon with some shots of my new work. Right now it’s getting late and I am absolutely pooped and need to hit the hay. My poor fan is working over time so I guess I need to give it a break for now. [:

Until next time Nakitt readers!
