Twenty-Eleven!

January 13th, 2011

Sorry for the huge silence. I have felt so unmotivated to write anything, but today that all changes with this little update on everything! [:

2010 ended wonderfully. It was funny to say goodbye to a year, it had gone so quickly and it felt unnatural to be welcoming a new one in so soon. Christmas was a mad affair with lots of noise, laughter and family members rushing around. Drove down to the other side of the country for a day for more family affairs, so it was very busy but a great chance to catch up and have some fun. New Years was quiet which is what we really needed. Spent the night watching fireworks from the bedroom window and then watched a million Chinese lanterns take to the sky across the horizon over South London which was beautiful.

2011 has been great so far. Every day has been productive and we’ve been geared up to tackle our resolutions. A few car troubles but we got it all fixed up properly and everything else has been falling into good place. Together we have huge plans for this year; life-changing plans which we’re really looking forward to. I can’t wait to get them all rolling and see how they unfold.

2011 will also see in our 4-year anniversary which makes us feel incredibly old! It’s funny to see how far we’ve come in 4 little years and it excites me to think where we’ll be in another 4 from now. It’s strange to know that 4 years has vanished in the blink of an eye when it just seems like yesterday everything really kicked off. But then again, they always say that time flies when you’re having fun, right?!

So bring on this year! We’re nearly half-way through the first month and I hope this time has already set the benchmark for the rest of the 11.5 months we have left before 2012. Lots of exciting opportunities and news to come and hopefully we won’t be lazy enough to let the little Nakitt blog go lonely any more. Thank you for those of you who do tune in frequently though, hope you’re all having a great 2011 already!

What a weekend!

November 28th, 2010

This has been by far one of the best weekends I can ever remember. Everything has just flowed at such a comfortable and sleepy pace and I actually feel so refreshed from it.

Friday night we went to see Jónsi which was my birthday present back in August. We spent all last night dancing in a giant hall. There were giant virtual butterflies around our heads and everyone swayed and chanted. Jónsi stood on a stage with a feather headdress on and lit up the room. He came over, he danced with all of us and it was just magical. On my birthday Nathan had bought us tickets for his world tour and last night was the night we’d been so eagerly awaiting. He signed our poster and we fell asleep on the underground with his feathers in our hair. Unfortunately they had confiscated all DSLR’s at the door so I didn’t get to take a single photograph inside, but that’s not what counted to me. It was so beautiful and a night I will never, ever forget for the rest of my life.

Yesterday was sleepy because of it. We cuddled in front of an open log fire all day and just relaxed our sleepy eyes. I spent the entire afternoon fitting Christmas presents into a box to send to Nathan’s family in Australia. We dragged it to the post office where the woman told us it was so big it would cost us £85 to send. I flipped out in front of everyone and refused to repackage it all because I had spent 3 hours making it all fit. We filled out the customs form before I just flew off the handle when we had to start declaring every little thing inside. Stormed out the post office, box in tow and seething angry that Royal Mail are so slack in every single little thing they do. Spent the night crying my eyes out over the whole thing and eventually fell asleep with very sore and pink eyes.

Today was the coldest it has been so far and still no sign of the promised snow! We ate a huge roast lunch and walked the dog amongst icy paths. The sun made everything glisten and it was so pretty, but insanely cold. I went to visit my Grandparents and met my eldest cousin and caught up. He usually goes out for lunches at work with Nathan because they work in the same area of town so we had a lot to talk about. I then went to see my Aunt and my little cousins as well as my 1st-cousin-once-removed who recently was married and her husband was there too. I spent the afternoon plaiting a 5 year old’s hair, talking about magic, unicorns, photography and holiday locations. It was such a warm afternoon in a cosy kitchen with laughter and good conversation. It makes me realise why family is just so important to have around.

There are (yet more) tube strikes tomorrow which means Nathan gets to work from home. They’re my favourite kind of days when he works and I can make him warm meals and serve them to him as he controls the work office from the desk. It should be a fairly busy week ahead with shoots, planning, organising and getting everything ready in time for Christmas. We’re getting our Christmas tree on Saturday and I can’t wait to see it in our new little house. I need to go and buy lots of baubles for it. [:

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!

Until next time.

Happy Guy Fawkes!

November 5th, 2010

Remember, remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.

So the 5th of November brings about my favourite annual celebration…
Guy Fawkes!

Tonight England’s sky is lit up in bright colours and there is noise and happiness in the air. I love the atmosphere it brings and how everyone looks into the night sky in absolute awe. Tomorrow we are off to the huge fireworks party with a giant bonfire, wine and donuts! This time last year Nathan and I sat quietly in a garden in Australia with a packet of sparklers and a hand-drawn Guy Fawkes by our side, it’s funny how just a matter of months can change everything. This year’s celebrations will blow everything else out of the water and we can’t wait.
Happy Guy Fawkes night!

Saturday recap!

October 10th, 2010

Just a quick “weekend” recap even though it’s early Sunday morning and we have no idea what today will entail yet. Yesterday was gorgeous in every single way possible from the warm happiness I felt churning inside me to the energy bounces that came out of nowhere. It was a beautiful, positive day and one I won’t forget.

We went to buy fresh ravioli for everyone for lunch from the Italian man in the deli at the end of the road. Usually my Dad does it but he had just flown in from the States an hour before and had accidentally fallen asleep so we went instead. I love it in that shop, it’s so quirky and bustling with life. We ate and then Nathan and I went to see my Grandparents. We spent an hour with Grandpa talking about his youth, his war adventures and basically about all things fun. By the time we left, he was banging the table with happy fists singing at the top of his lungs. It was amazing to see his spirits pick up so much. We went upstairs and saw Granny who had dragged all her wires to the chair by the window. It was the first time I had seen her sitting up and she smiled so widely as I walked in. I ran and gave her a huge hug and we all had a little chat.

Then we went to walk Hattie. All the trees were bright orange, green and yellow. There was a little chilly nip to the air and we collected conkers. Heaps of horse riders were out and we ran amongst brambles and berries. It was so good to have that time away from life in those woods and just be lost from the world.  We came home and had Thai takeaway that my parents bought and my body started to fall asleep from the exhaustion of such a fun day. My Dad drove Nay and I back to our little abode and I wrote a lot through sleepy eyes. By the time I looked at the clock it was 1am when I crawled into bed and don’t remember anything else.

I love the feel of Autumn in the air. As much as we all lived for Summer, it’s so exciting to see the sun disappear below the horizon at 5pm and not reappear until late morning. Soon the clocks roll back an hour and we’ll collect pumpkins. The log fires will start where we roast chestnuts and play slow music to curl up with. So there is definitely a lot more to look forward to.

Have a Happy Sunday!

Our new family members.

September 27th, 2010

Nathan and I would proudly like to present to you our newest additions to our family…

Meet Tea and Biscuit!

They are two cheeky little Roborovski hamsters full of boundless energy. They are so loving to one another and are still adjusting to their new home together. We got them yesterday but they’re already getting very used to us, our voices and the noises we already find familiar around our house. Welcome to the family kiddos!
