Spring!

March 14th, 2011

It’s March! The blossoms are out, the daffodils have sprung, there are wild and bright flowers popping up everywhere, the sun hasn’t left for days on end and the nights are short. It feels so good to see blue skies and feel the sun on our skin later than 4pm now! In a few days we change our clocks to BST and we can’t wait. Goodbye woolly jumpers and thick socks, see you come winter again. We’ve got a warm spring to go out and enjoy! [:

Christmas feeling!

December 11th, 2010

Today we finally reached a goal and have set up our home for Christmas. It will be the third holiday season we have spent together and the first time we have ever been able to buy a tree and celebrate properly. We played carols as my parents and us all danced around the tree hanging up the fairy lights and baubles. It is a night we’ll always remember. Just a few little snapshots taken tonight of our little cosy house looking all Christmassy. We’re living in a little Victorian house with a bright Christmas tree casting light onto the pavement and rooms full of warmth and lulling happiness. Pizza takeaway is on it’s way to feed our hungry tummies, it’s a perfect evening.

Happy Guy Fawkes!

November 5th, 2010

Remember, remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.

So the 5th of November brings about my favourite annual celebration…
Guy Fawkes!

Tonight England’s sky is lit up in bright colours and there is noise and happiness in the air. I love the atmosphere it brings and how everyone looks into the night sky in absolute awe. Tomorrow we are off to the huge fireworks party with a giant bonfire, wine and donuts! This time last year Nathan and I sat quietly in a garden in Australia with a packet of sparklers and a hand-drawn Guy Fawkes by our side, it’s funny how just a matter of months can change everything. This year’s celebrations will blow everything else out of the water and we can’t wait.
Happy Guy Fawkes night!

Saturday recap!

October 10th, 2010

Just a quick “weekend” recap even though it’s early Sunday morning and we have no idea what today will entail yet. Yesterday was gorgeous in every single way possible from the warm happiness I felt churning inside me to the energy bounces that came out of nowhere. It was a beautiful, positive day and one I won’t forget.

We went to buy fresh ravioli for everyone for lunch from the Italian man in the deli at the end of the road. Usually my Dad does it but he had just flown in from the States an hour before and had accidentally fallen asleep so we went instead. I love it in that shop, it’s so quirky and bustling with life. We ate and then Nathan and I went to see my Grandparents. We spent an hour with Grandpa talking about his youth, his war adventures and basically about all things fun. By the time we left, he was banging the table with happy fists singing at the top of his lungs. It was amazing to see his spirits pick up so much. We went upstairs and saw Granny who had dragged all her wires to the chair by the window. It was the first time I had seen her sitting up and she smiled so widely as I walked in. I ran and gave her a huge hug and we all had a little chat.

Then we went to walk Hattie. All the trees were bright orange, green and yellow. There was a little chilly nip to the air and we collected conkers. Heaps of horse riders were out and we ran amongst brambles and berries. It was so good to have that time away from life in those woods and just be lost from the world.  We came home and had Thai takeaway that my parents bought and my body started to fall asleep from the exhaustion of such a fun day. My Dad drove Nay and I back to our little abode and I wrote a lot through sleepy eyes. By the time I looked at the clock it was 1am when I crawled into bed and don’t remember anything else.

I love the feel of Autumn in the air. As much as we all lived for Summer, it’s so exciting to see the sun disappear below the horizon at 5pm and not reappear until late morning. Soon the clocks roll back an hour and we’ll collect pumpkins. The log fires will start where we roast chestnuts and play slow music to curl up with. So there is definitely a lot more to look forward to.

Have a Happy Sunday!
