Everything!

June 30th, 2009

What a rollercoaster everything has been the past few days. I wrote Nathan’s birthday blog entry the day after his birthday, but I didn’t get around to actually posting it until 2 days ago. I feel so bad.

It has been so hot lately. Nathan and I went on the hunt for a fan this morning as our flat’s bedroom is dangerously hot and there is no breeze. It’s at least 30 degrees in there at night and we can hardly sleep! Everywhere is sold out, so we’re going to have to keep looking around as we’re in desperate need of one! Today it’s around 35 degrees which is bearable inside, but it is so humid and still outside that it feels even hotter. We’ve got a spray bottle which we keep spraying one another with, it’s so much fun!

A while back part of Nathan’s tooth fell out, leaving a big hole. We were really worried about it, but a few days later, it looked like the gum had grown over it and it looked normal. We were totally confused about it. Anyway. I made tasty paninis last week and that tooth fell apart, but this time a massive chunk came out, so Nathan booked the dentist straight away. We went this morning expecting all sorts of drills, fillings and nasty things that dentists have. Turns out that the “tooth” that was falling out was just plaque build up and it was falling off making it look like it was his actual tooth. So he cleaned up his teeth, patted him on the head and let him go. What a bloody relief!

I’m starting a little before and after thing for the blog as I think it’d be really interesting. I always love looking at photographer’s before and afters as something about them fascinates me. I just love seeing how they gave a certain mood to a photo. So here’s the first one..

Before-After Dance

We took this photo on the weekend. Nathan came to help me take some macro nature images around the place and on the way back to the car, I saw the sky merge into a mound on top of the hill we were on. So I got Nathan to do some crazy jumps and then I decided that I could do some too, so we stood there jumping with the camera snapping away. It was heaps of fun until I realised that after taking my socks and shoes off, I’d been 2 centimetres away from rabbit poo. I couldn’t put them back on fast enough! It was so much fun and I want to take a million more like this.

Before-After Inconsistency

I made this photograph today. I went upstairs, ran the shower, got in and took some really creepy looking photos. I swear I felt the room turn cold which was kind of scary. It was quite fun though, I’m still not totally sure about the final photo though. But then again, I’m never really sure about any of my art. I guess that’s called being a self-critical artist?

Anyway. I can hear Nathan in the kitchen, so I want to go and make some lunch. We bought carrot and coriander soup, and I’m dying for it! It’s 2:10, so definitely time for lunch! Then later we may go and look at shirts for Nathan. I think he wanted a new Hackett one, but I don’t know if that’s merely because of my constant, “That one would really suit you” and “I really think you should get one” demanding! Oh well, we’ll see! [:

Toodles and peace out!

Nathan’s Birthday.

June 27th, 2009

Last Sunday, June 21st, was Nathan’s birthday. We were up at 4 and then up again at 7 to open his presents. I think my surprise I’d put together for him went down really well. I’d gotten him an autographed Feeder poster and put it in a really vintage looking frame from the local art shop. I also got him some really awesome looking shorts and I personalised a huge notebook for him to do his coding in.

He then got presents from the rest of the family. Including a voucher from Libby and some really ace jeans from my parents… and a shirt with his catchphrase “Awesome” on it. We went ice skating at the Guildford Spectrum which was so much fun. The ice was all bumpy and bloody scary, but it was hilarious all the same. We ate veggie burgers whilst watching the F1 on a huge screen and got back in the car. We got a bit lost on the way back… we ended up in a hospital waste area which was kind of freaky. We could only wonder how many arms and legs there were in all the bins around us! We got home in one piece anyway, even if we were hysterically laughing all the way.

To really celebrate we had a tea party in the Sun. It was beautiful and the weather really beamed down on us. We had cupcakes and scones with tea to drink and a massive carrot cake for Nathan which was coated with nuts. It was delicious!

Then we drove up the Hill to the lake we like to wander around. The Sun was still very high in the sky (as it was the Summer Solstice) but the atmosphere was really magical. We even had some strange man come and ask to see the photos we’d taken.  By the end of the day we just crashed. Everything went fantastically and Nathan deserved the most amazing day.

All things.

Bed

This is exactly how I feel right now. I want to curl up and not come out until everything feels better.

Whisper

Summer starts on Sunday and I am very, very excited about it! The Summer Solstice happens and even though we’re not Druids, I still get all excited about it all.

I’ve been feeling a bit miserable for a couple of reasons. I’ll type them out below and then turn them into positives. Everything negative always has an upside too. [:

1. The woman who tail-gated us home just so she could swear at us because she was drunk/stoned.
2. Being told that Nathan’s surprise birthday present was only dispatched today and as there is a postal strike tomorrow, God knows when I’ll see it.
3. Feeling like I’m getting no where with my art and that all my inspiration has been zapped away.
4. The annoying French man who lives with us, me ending up cleaning up his dishes and him just leaving more out for me to clean. He can forget it.
5. iTunes taking for bloody ever downloading Pet Shop Boys’ new song.

And now the positives:

1. She was obviously out of order. Even a woman walking past when she was screaming told me to ignore her as she was obviously mental.
2. I guess it can always be a belated present, and it really is the thought that counts. I sent a polite email to the man to let him know I wasn’t happy with the situation so let’s see what he can do about it. Fingers crossed.
3. I always get those feelings. I just need to wait for another creative burst to come along.
4. We’re moving out in a few weeks anyway, and he’s hopeless anyway. A 23 year old who doesn’t know how to clean or cook food? Pretty pathetic.
5. The wait is worth it!

Music for your eyes

I feel a lot better after all that crap. I’m mostly gutted about number 2 as I paid for it on Monday so it would get here in time, but the man was too lazy to send it to me. I’m fed up with all the postal strikes. I think they’re all totally selfish. They get paid a good £3ok a year which is nothing to complain about, especially in a recession. They’re not the only ones struggling, but you don’t see hospital staff striking, do you?

Night
I keep dreaming during the day. I’ll be doing the dishes and dream off into some foreign land. I keep wondering where we’ll be next year. I keep thinking of 10 years time, if we’ll have a nice house by then, if we’ll go on exotic holidays together and if we’ll still find life fun.

I washed the car this morning when a lady whizzed by me in an electric wheelchair. She was smiling away and looked really happy about something. I watched her whizz off down the pavement when I heard a man laughing from behind me. It was an elderly man also in an electronic wheelchair who was obviously racing her. He zoomed by, cackling his head off and having the time of his life, even if he was 80. It made me smile so much and realise that only our bodies get old, not our spirits.

I’m off now to go and make one of Nathan’s birthday presents. I think it is something he’s wanted for a long, long time. Or at least I hope so!

Today’s Photo Shoot.

June 17th, 2009

I must be absolutely addicted to jumping into muddy water to take photographs. The last week I have been so motivated to take photographs, I have been coming up with images in my mind and today I just couldn’t take it any longer. I had been planning a water shoot for a while and today was the day we decided to take the plunge (pun not intended!)

As we got there it started to rain. It was only a little few spots here and there, and once we were in, we became remarkably warm. It was actually quite nice! It was hard not to either show the remote or get it wet either, but I think the images turned out really nicely and I am so happy with the results.

That would be all from our side of the World for now. I’m off to find us some supper and to look into “stuff” for Nathan’s birthday present which I’m making. [:

Peace out!
