Polaroids Are Saved!

January 20th, 2009

Polaroid started off as a fad. Like the iPhone, everyone simply had to have one. It made millions until the dawn of 1990 in which it’s fate was inevitable. Sooner or later the World was going to convert to digital photography in which they could just simply see their image before developing it. Polaroid’s tones and uniqueness was speeding downhill towards a brick wall.

Nearly a year ago, Polaroid announced that it would be closing it’s doors for good. The World without Polaroid? That loveable instant film which drove everyone crazy to shake and watch appear out of the greyness of a magical square? Yes, Polaroid was never to return.

But! And this is a BIG but…!

Campaigners from all over the planet joined together in hope to bring the Polaroids back from the dead.

A few days ago we heard news that a company has bought the equipment for development and that they were indeed going to make the World happy again. No one takes Polaroid away from it’s people!

Thanks to places such as The Impossible Project, we can now sleep at night knowing that by 2010, our Polaroid cameras shall be filled again and this’ll all be but a gross nightmare.

So hurray for Polaroid! Viva la Polavolution!

Happy Pills.

January 19th, 2009

If there is one place we have to visit before we die, it would have to be “Happy Pills” in Barcelona. Purely for the fact that this place just seems to be utterly unbelievable.

No, they would not be real pills but rather sweets just made to look like them (I don’t even want to think about the ethical implications behind them). But supposedly this store is one to make everyone happy even though it looks like a doctor’s clinic which I would’ve thought would have a completely opposite effect.

I’m just not sure about this. It does indeed look like its been created by a really sick person (oh, the irony) and it probably does encourage the younger people to mix up sweets with real drugs, but I thought it looked like a really creepy place to one day visit. Even though by the time we get there, they’ll have shut it down due to the pure sickness of the entire concept. Maybe the Spanish are just crazy and want to make their nation obese, or maybe this was an entirely innocent attempt at starting a fad. I’d hate to have seen the rates after the store just opened in which children were rushed into hospital after having swallowed bandages whole thinking they were marshmallows.

This place just screams pure terror to me.

Help Us Buy A House!

January 17th, 2009

Okay, so we all hear those really rare and amazingly inspirational stories, but we hardly ever see them. I know for one that I would love to be a part of one, really badly.

Last year I read One Red Paperclip. In a nutshell its about a man who trades his items for a house and his first item he traded was a red paperclip. After about a year, he managed to trade a movie role for his house. It was really inspiring to read and it really made me want to go out there and really do something similar; even though those chances pass us by very easily.

Nathan and I currently live in a little flat in London with 4 other people. They’re all foreign and pay very little rent, and we pay a huge sum just to live together which can be very disheartening at times. Lately I have been dreaming about one day living in a house, but with this current recession I feel we’ll never get there. Where on Earth would we find the money for a house? I’ve been applying for job after job for a year to no avail and it is quite a frightening reality as I’d really love to have a bit more to maybe buy our bed a headboard, or buy a lampshade. But we have to save our money for rent, visas, airfares and food.

I know we probably have very little readers right now after blogging for only about half a year, and I bet people just pass through this site without a second thought of ever coming back. I have no way to tell as we have never received a personal comment. So if there is in fact anyone out there, please let us know!

This may be hard to start with so little readers and I may have to try and try and try again, but trying makes the reward all the more rewarding. Now for the point of the blog post…

We have ads in place on this site, so please feel free to click them, even if you don’t read them. It would help boost a little fund for us. I will also put a donation link up for people to pass by and maybe toss 5p into every now and again to help us on our way. With this money from ad clicking (which wouldn’t cost you anything) as well as maybe a few kind donations, we can one day achieve our goal of a house.

Why should you help us, you ask? Wouldn’t it be great if you wanted something so badly came true because people helped you along the way? If this ever got big, you’d be part of some huge reformation. We could help inspire everyone else to do the same. We could help you if one day you wanted to do the same thing. It’s for a worthwhile cause, and yes, we understand that this isn’t for a charity, but we’re hoping for a little bit of success from the kindness of your hearts.

So if you’re willing, please help us out! I’ll ask Nathan if we could get a donation button up sometime this coming week and we’ll keep you updated whilst I try and pass more traffic our way.

Thank you for all your help and support in advance! [:

Poop.

January 17th, 2009

Nay’s gone and got me hooked on Last.fm which is just one of the coolest things since sliced bread. He’s developing his Finity Player which looks more and more awesome every day, and I’m getting stoked to get my hands on a beta copy sometime!

Just washed poo off the dog and now she looks so white, I need sunglasses to look at her!

We may go and get a hoover later and pop by the Ford garage to get the front tyre pumped up a tad as it has a slow puncture. I really want to go so I can persuade my parents to buy me an early birthday present (AKA a new laptop!) Doubt it’ll happen though. Oh well.

The Sun has been shining all day, currently listening to Anouk “Don’t” which is a really foot tapping tune. I feel like going on a bike ride around the park later, and maybe I will!? At the same time I just feel waaaay too lazy to move a bone. The rain this morning on the window woke me up and kept me up for ages, but when I listened to how comforting the sound was, I was out like a light again!

And oh! It’s going to snow on Monday again. So that should be fun. I like the snow like this in small doses. [:

That would be all for now. Have a wonderful Saturday!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

January 8th, 2009

We have been as busy as bees over the past week!

It’s been snowing heaps and heaps, so we’ve been having to wrap up extra warm alongside log fires and woolly socks!

My laptop conked it nearly a week ago or so, it’s been really odd without it. There’s no more, “Oh, I’ll quickly go look that up..” anymore. It’s pretty nice without it though and I suppose it’s a refreshing break, so I’ve been keeping amused by going camera crazy! I’ve finally been bothered to upload some Winter polaroid shots from Boxing Day through to earlier this week.
