This One’s For You.

October 29th, 2008

So this post is a bit out of character for us, but I thought it’d be pretty cool to put up.

After our neighbour yelling at us and threatening to beat us up merely because we asked him to “shut up” after he waved his beer can at Nathan on friday night, I think this is a very suitable song for our new Italian mate. He wants us to “respect” him, so I think this is a great start.

This one’s for you, pillock.

Coffee In The Pot & A New Companion For Nakitt.

October 25th, 2008

Okay, so that indeed isn’t coffee, it would be hot chocolate. I just felt like naming the post after the song we were just listening to. All the same, coffee isn’t really our thing, but hot chocolate seems to be our fuel for this cold weather. On the other note, today was gloriously sunny with that nice Winter nip in the air, that kind of weather that is chilly enough to freeze your nose off (or just make it dribble) but there’s just something so refreshing about it.

This morning we made a little friend for Nakitt. As you may notice, we now have Adsense within our page which we thought would look snazzy. I’m having so much fun just clicking through the ads to see what related things come up. There seems to be a lot about weight loss there – surely we’re not a Weightwatchers club?!

Thank goodness it’s Friday! Hello Saturday lie-in and lazy day. Next week is Halloween. I need to upload some photos of pumpkins and these little creatures I cut out, glued together and have proudly planted in front of the TV. But we’re going to get high on toffee apples and snuggle up and wait for trick-or-treaters. I hope we don’t get egged. Then the following weekend we’re celebrating Guy Fawkes which’ll be really exciting!

Lately we’ve been talking a lot about getting married, I guess the concept is becoming a whole lot more realistic considering that this time next year, neither one of us will have commitments to anything else apart from one another and earning our income. I think we’re both set on having a photobooth there, that idea excites me a lot! We’ll work on a lot more, hooray! [:

Anyway, as for now, stay warm and we’ll have more interesting updates soon!

Blustery Winter, And A Warm Delight.

October 24th, 2008

Well, I think I can officially say that winter has begun. The trees all around the house are shaking and twisting with the hard winds that are absolutely battering the house; it sounds more like a hurricane is taking place outside than the beginning of winter, but that’s the way these things go! The sky keeps threatening to rain on us, but it seems to be more full of tease than fact right now, and only the tinniest spits of water are actually falling on the slowly withering garden. Oh, daffodils, why did I plant thee only a week ago?

There’s a lovely post over on (one of) Kitty’s favourite blogs, Paper Pony, about how the authors are celebrating their 4th anniversary! Thus indeed, only a few days ago on the 20th, we celebrated being together as a couple for 17 months, and although that’s a far cry from the 48 those two have racked up, we still have trouble keeping score and remembering all the way back to the beginning. It felt like it was only just yesterday in a way, but when I cast my mind back to all the millions of different, individual events that have happened since that day, it makes it seem so distant in the past!

Anyway, romantic rambles aside, I made a lovely pasta bake today for lunch for Kits and I today, which was absolutely killer good! I’ve popped the recipe below, so if you’re feeling pecish, and you want a quick and easy meal, give it a go!

Pasta Bake Recipe:

Ingredients
300g x Pasta
200g x Grated Cheese
100g x Tomato Paste OR 200g x Tomato Passata (Pasta Sauce)
1 x Onion

Method
1. Preheat oven to 220°C, 200°C if fan forced.
2. Cook pasta on stove plain and drain.
3. Combine the tomato paste with water, adding and stirring until it looks more like sauce. Skip this step if you have your own sauce.
4. Dice finely an entire onion, or half to taste, and mix with sauce.
5. Stir sauce through pasta, and stir 150g of cheese through the pasta before pouring into an oven proof dish.
6. Top pasta with remaining cheese, and bake for 15-20 minutes at 220°C, 200°C if fan forced.

And that’s it! The results are delicious, and it’s as easy as pie, maybe even easier?

Inamo.

October 17th, 2008

Inamo is a brand new, high-tech restaurant nestled within the West-end of bustling London. With Japanese cuisine, it already is at an advantage, but it comes with a twist. It puts you in complete control of pretty much everything (just apart from the cooking!)

After admiring the wonderful decor,

and craning our necks up at the projectors above our table,

we gave the interactive menu a go.

And we got our starter dish of asparagus and beans in a sesame sauce. Pretty messy and hard to eat with chopsticks, but definitely worth it!

Afterwards, we checked out the limits of what our table could do.

Changing the table’s ambience really did set the mood for the meal.

Or we could just play a game of Battleship together whilst we waited for our next course.

Our main course would’ve been the Red Curry which was full of butternut squash. It was the only vegetarian option for us to go for, and it was certainly no let-down! Once again, one of the messiest and hardest things to eat with chopsticks, but it all added to the fun of it!

Time for another colour change after ordering dessert. Don’t our plates look sparkling clean?!

And so we busied ourselves in a game of slider as well as watching the live webcam feed from the kitchen! Yep, that would be correct, you can actually watch the chefs in the kitchen making the food from the convenience from your seat!

And we won!

Nathan ordered the crème brulee which was absolutely delicious. It was a true crème brulee and it even had a touch of “water cubes” which were seriously yummy!

I on the other hand, went for the sorbet. It was wonderful, but the flavours were very different. I was convinced that the green one was kelp!

All in all, Inamo was a great night out and worth every penny. The service was fast and the staff were very helpful and friendly – they even asked if we’d be blogging on them! It was an incredible experience and definitely a restaurant which will become a more regular outing! We’re no food critics, but this restaurant definitely gets a positive 10/10 from us!

October, Oh October.

October 2nd, 2008

This is what today has pretty much looked like all day long. Grey, cold and just miserable, here comes Winter then. The clouds in the sky were black and looked like they were so heavy, they’d just start randomly falling. We went to the travel agents and picked up a brochure which had nothing in it that we were looking for, but we’re hopefully off to Paris for a weekend soon.

This was taken 3 days ago in the nice warm Sun, and I just love this shot to pieces. [: I think it looks pretty awesome to me.

Oh! We won a competition for a spa day at Champneys which is apparently “the place to go” as my Dad keeps saying (maybe he really secretly wants it?) I was looking into it and to get what we won, the price is £290 per person, and we just got it for the price of a magazine and SMS! Pretty cool really, so we’ll call up and book that soon. I’m so excited, it’ll be nice to have a day to just unwind and relax together in a place like that! [:

Mmh, Nathan bought coke and cheese today, so we made pasta with cheese on top and really nice, fizzy coke for lunch. It was really nice, it felt like being in a restaurant.

I was looking around Lello Ltd and it got me feeling all Christmassy, so I’ve started making Christmas cards already! I’ll need Nathan’s help and approval, but I think they’re looking pretty decent right now if I may say so myself. Hooray for Christmas! I should start buying presents to be organised.

Anyway, I have nothing else to report on apart from a little recipe for blueberry muffins which would go down so well right now!

The Ingredients:

  • 190g of all-purpose flour
  • 100 g white sugar
  • 150g of white sugar
  • 80ml vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 80 ml milk
  • 3g of salt
  • 145 g fresh blueberries
  • 9g of baking powder
  • 40 g all-purpose flour
  • 55 g butter, cubed
  • 3 g ground cinnamon

The Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees C. Grease the muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
  2. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.
  3. To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.
